By 1990, Cooper Creek was within the city limits of Denton. Today, only the Cooper Creek Baptist Church and Cooper Creek Cemetery remain as reminders of its historical roots.

The community is named after the nearby creek, which provided early settlers with essential water and timber resources. Cooper Creek has a rural character, featuring medium to large single-family homes and mobile homes, with many residences established between 1970 and 1999.
